FREQUENT URINATING

If you are urinating frequently it is important to see your doctor and find out why this is happening! Some possibilities include:

Diabetes (Men and Women)
The symptoms of early diabetes are often subtle. In fact, you can have diabetes for years and not even know it.  According to the American Diabetes Association, in the United States alone, more than 6 million people are unaware that they have diabetes.
Excessive thirst and
increased urination are classic diabetes symptoms. Simple tests can confirm a diagnosis and get you on the road to better health and longer life.

Urination Urgency (Women)
This includes urination with burning, urgency, the constant feeling you "need to go."  These types of nagging problems can make life miserable.  Any area of the urinary tract can be involved, from the bladder to the tube carrying urine to the outside.  A gynecologist or urologist can sort out the many combinations and varieties of symptoms, find out if you have infection or inflammation.  Urinary tract infections are common in women.  Interstitial Cystitis (an inflammation of the inside of the bladder) is not uncommon in women and  not always easy to diagnose).  A few more unusual possibilities must also be sorted out.

Enlarging Prostate (EP): Urination Starts and Stops (Men)
As men get older their prostate gland seems to get bigger.  Symptoms of an enlarging prostate gland include a frequent urge to urinate, getting up in the night  to urinate, difficulty emptying the bladder, urination that stops and starts (Peeing in "Morse Code").
Enlarging prostate is not usually cancerous but it is important to rule out cancer.   Continuing growth of the gland will affect the quality of life  and if urinating is cut off completely it can be life-threatening.  See a urologist for diagnosis and medication or, sometimes, surgery.  ______________________________________________
